Imaging Energy Filter IEF
General description
The Imaging Energy Filter (IEF) is an imaging unit for the Focus IS-PEEM dedicated for spectromicroscopy
. The energy filter consists of a preretardation lens and a two grid retarding field analyser. The retarding field acts as an high pass energy filter; its energy
resolution depends on the preretardation and can be below 1eV. The imaging unit can operate either in imaging mode or pulse counting mode.
In imaging mode contrasts due to certain energies can be enhanced (especially if differences of pictures are displayed) and the
resolution due to chromatic aberrations is improved (especially with soft X-ray excitation). In pulse counting mode high pass spectra can be
obtained. With the iris aperture closed, the IEF acts as a microspectroscopy-analyser.
